Perkins + Will

Name: Perkins + Will
Location: Liverpool St Station, London
Client: Derwent

Most striking among many changes was the relocation of the building’s entrance, leading into a resplendent, light-filled atrium that rises another seven stories through the heart of the building to a glazed roof. The atrium towers above a modern reception area, café and breakout space that flows onto an outside garden terrace.

Refurbishment converted the building into a vibrant hub, much sought-after within London’s tech belt. Conveniently situated just a short walk from Liverpool Street station, it quickly emerged as an ideal choice for Perkins+Will, whose location goal had been to move to a City Fringe location in Aldgate.

For many years, the global architecture and design firm has enlisted Franchi expertise and support to deliver various client projects. This long-standing relationship made Franchi the obvious choice to supply ironmongery for the firm’s new London offices.

The design ethos at Perkins+Will is to provide flexible solutions that have a transformative impact on each client’s environment. As a firm that successfully combines output from collaborative client consultation with innovative creativity, it was essential for the new office space design to reflect its philosophy and values. Franchi embraced these by providing timeless, understated ironmongery that subtly complements the Perkins+Will office design.

Commenting on how they worked together to achieve ironmongery for their new offices, Richard Jordan of Perkins+Will said: “It’s essential for us to work with someone whose efforts focus on identifying what’s required as well as understanding why. From previous projects, we knew that the approach taken by Franchi’s Specifications team always builds in adequate time to fully appreciate what we are trying to achieve. In this case, Franchi’s Peter Hutchins was assigned to the project and became a sort of virtual member of our team. We’ve found this is an important part of the overall process to ensure an invaluable outcome: that everything is specified correctly. As architects, the significance of getting the detail right, first time, every time, cannot be understated - our reputation depends on it.”
